World Book Day 2024

Children and staff had great fun celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 7th March 2024.

Thursday saw an amazing celebration of our favourite books on World Book Day. Reading is such a fundamental skill in our world and brings so many opportunities also to improve our lives – it was great to embrace such a great day to encourage this. It was wonderful to guess all the characters and books the children had dressed up as, as well as some of the “book in a box”es that children have made.

The booksale was a great success and a lovely opportunity for children to buy a “new” book to read at an affordable price as well as doing their bit for reusing and raising money for our school! We have raised more than £500, which will be used to purchase new books and resources for the children.  Thank you to Miss Gillam for her hard work in organising the sale and to everyone who has helped by donating their pre-loved books as well as all the staff who have moved books and helped with this.

Year 3 and 5 also had the opportunity to visit Waterstones and use their WBD voucher on the day itself. Please look out for the WBD voucher coming home with your child which can be used to purchase one of the special WBD books or redeemed against another book (£2.99 or more) in participating book shops.

Children will also be bringing home a Readathon record card. We would love to see these helping to encourage your child to further their reading beyond World Book Day and look forward to hearing about all their fantastic reading.

Thank you to all the staff for their efforts (and costumes!) and for putting reading at the heart of what we do, to Ms Lewis (English lead) in particular for organising many of the events as well and Mrs Squirrell and Mrs Smith to name a few!
