Ten Pin Bowling - Romford January 2024

Bowling might seem like more of a mental game given that it’s focused on strategically knocking down pins, but it’s so much more than that. It was a fantastic opportunity for our deaf pupils to participate in another Panathlon Foundation event at The Brewery in Romford. Some of the bowling balls ended up in the gutter and even though we didn’t win the competition, Pippin added two strikes to our scoreboard! The staff and pupils embarked on an hour long journey on Bus 370 from Lakeside to Romford and that in itself was an adventure. Pupils completed a quiz on route and ticked off the 46 bus stops that it took to get there! At the end of the competition, there was a presentation for all the students with medals and certificates.

Chelmsford Cathedral Carol service 2023

On Friday 1st December, our deaf pupils were able to watch the live streaming of the signed carol service at Chelmsford Cathedral. This service has grown in popularity over the years and as a result , schools are invited to attend and perform every alternate year. This year, our pupils all joined together in the small hall to watch, sign and sing along to the carols. They enjoyed seeing lots of other children perform and Mrs Lawrence signed along with the service.

African Drumming workshop – October 2023

Pupils had the opportunity to learn all about the Djembe / Jembe drums from West Africa. They learnt about the different parts of the drums and how it was used to communicate messages from one tribe to another. Their hand – eye coordination improved and it was challenging and fun to follow the rhythms, beats and calls.

Chelmsford Cathedral Carol service - December 2022

On December 12th 2022, our deaf pupils took part in the signed carol service at Chelmsford Cathedral. They worked very hard to learn the sign for ‘It was on a Starry Night’ and performed this carol at the front of the cathedral. They enjoyed seeing lots of other deaf school perform and we even ran into some familiar faces! We are very grateful to the EDCS for funding the cost of our coach to travel to this event.
