RECEPTION

Spring 2:

This half-term Reception have completed lots of work based on tales from around the world. We have listened to stories from China, Indian and Africa. Children have enjoyed learning about the seven continents through song, and we have also made lots of crafts linked to spring.

Spring 1:

The focus of our topic in Reception for this half term has been traditional tales. We have looked at the stories The Gingerbread Man, Hansel and Gretel,  and Little Red Riding Hood. We have enjoyed learning about the characters, story settings and story structure. In PE, we have started to use the bigger apparatus and have had lots of fun on the ropes developing our strength and gymnastic skills. In maths we have been developing our understanding of measure. We enjoyed learning how to use the scales and were able to make them balance using the sweets that the Wicked Witch had sent us. We also enjoyed exploring capacity using a range of different measuring containers.

Autumn 2:

This half term the children have been learning all about People Who Help US. We have learnt about the different emergency services. We made an emergency vehicle of our choice, either a police car, fire engine or ambulance using different materials.

We have been enjoying making and creating lots of different Christmas crafts. We made winter collages, calendars, cards for our families, snowflake decorations and Christmas crackers.

We whittled wood at Forest school using a sheaf knife. We made either a snowman or a Father Christmas.

Autumn 1:

Reception children have enjoyed experiencing lots of new things. They have been to their first PE session, their first Forest School session and First assembly.

The Children have been busy showing the adults all the things they can do and have enjoyed learning through play.

The children have been learning about families and recognise that not all families are the same. The children enjoyed drawing and labelling their family members including any pets. They also enjoyed writing about things they like and things they can do.
