YEAR 2

Spring 1:

This half term year two has been great fun! We have learned how to divide, write letters and learned all about Australia. Further to this, in Year 2 we have also had lots of fun in different lessons, including building our own rockets in DT and making space themed sun catchers. This week we had a really big reward, the persuasive letters we wrote to Mrs Evans and Ms Green earned us pancakes in class!

Autumn 2:

The children have been looking at photography in computing. They have considered what different things affect a photograph like lighting, position and effects. Year 2 has also looked at the history of photography and how devices have changed over time. The children loved the subject and enjoyed the freedom of being able to take their own photographs and evaluate them!

Within Art Year 2 have been learning about sculptures. The children have looked at different artists such as Herny Moore, Barbara Hepworth and Antony Gormley. Our Year 2 students have loved being able to use different medias to create various artwork in reflection of the artists they have been learning about. They have created some amazing pieces and have enjoyed each and every creative second.

In Maths Year 2 have been learning about a new topic. The children have been learning about 2D and 3D Shapes. They have done a lot of written work but have also been taking part in practical tasks involving different blocks. For example, they could only build towers with 3D shapes that they could name and recognise the amount of edges and faces on them. Otherwise the children had to give up the block they had been building with. It has been nice to see the children learning in different practical ways and defiantly improved their shape knowledge.

Autumn 1:

The children started year 2 with an enthusiastic and brave outlook. They have been doing an excellent job at learning new classroom rules and completing some more challenging work!

However, we know that when the children started Year 2 they had a lot of concerns, worries and initial nerves. That is why we made the focus of our first week thinking about these worries and letting them go. We completed worksheets where the children could share one worry and one hope for year 2. The children then coloured a worry monster each and wrote their worry on the back.

This was then tied to a balloon, and we released them with our classmates! This helped us to let go of our worries and focus on the fun-filled and exciting year ahead of us!
