Year 6 Explore the Tower of London

Yesterday, our Year 6 pupils braved the rain for an exciting and memorable trip to the historic Tower of London. Despite the wet weather, spirits stayed high as the children explored one of Britain’s most iconic landmarks and brought their history learning to life.

A Day Filled With Discovery

From the moment they arrived, the pupils were captivated by the Tower’s towering stone walls and centuries of stories. Guided by expert staff, they learned about the many roles the Tower has played — from royal palace to fortress, prison, and even a zoo.

They also had the chance to view the Crown Jewels, taking in the dazzling collection that has been used in royal ceremonies for generations.

Meeting the Ravens and the Beefeaters

A favourite moment for many was meeting the Tower’s famous ravens. The children were fascinated by the legend that the kingdom will fall if the ravens ever leave. They also enjoyed speaking with a Yeoman Warder, who shared intriguing tales about life at the Tower and answered plenty of curious questions.

Bringing Learning to Life

The visit supported the children’s current history topic, helping them deepen their understanding of the Tudor period, medieval life, and the Tower’s role in shaping the nation. Teachers were delighted to see pupils making connections between their classroom learning and the real-world history around them.

A Memorable Experience

Even with the rain, Year 6 returned to school full of enthusiasm and eager to share their favourite moments. It was a day that sparked curiosity, strengthened their historical knowledge, and created lasting memories.
