Celebrating Chinese New Year in EYFS
Our EYFS children enjoyed a wonderful Dance Days visit just before half-term as we celebrated Chinese New Year together. The workshop brought the festival to life through movement, music, and storytelling, giving the children a fun and memorable way to explore another culture.
🌟 What the children experienced
-
They learned simple traditional dance steps inspired by the Dragon Dance.
-
They listened to music linked to the celebrations and moved in time to the rhythms.
-
They practised working together as a team, taking turns and following instructions.
🧧 Why this celebration matters
Chinese New Year is a time of joy, hope, and community. By taking part in the workshop, children developed:
-
Cultural awareness and appreciation of global celebrations
-
Physical confidence through expressive movement
-
Language skills as they learned new words and ideas
-
Social skills through shared activities and group dances
The children were enthusiastic, curious, and full of smiles throughout the session. It was a wonderful way to mark the start of the new lunar year and deepen their understanding of the world around them.
