Thorndon Country Park Trip - Year 2

Year 2 enjoyed a fantastic day out at Thorndon Country Park last week, making the very most of the beautiful woodland — even in the hot weather. Thanks to the park’s shady forest areas, pupils were able to stay cool and comfortable while exploring everything the natural environment had to offer.
The children spent the day wandering through the trees, discovering hidden pathways, and taking part in hands‑on nature activities. One of the highlights was their minibeast hunt, where pupils searched under logs, leaves, and stones to find tiny creatures living in the forest floor. They were thrilled to spot beetles, woodlice, worms, and other fascinating minibeasts, learning how each one plays an important role in the woodland ecosystem.
Despite the heat, the shade of the forest kept everyone refreshed, and the children showed brilliant curiosity, teamwork, and enthusiasm throughout the day. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to connect with nature, build confidence outdoors, and enjoy learning beyond the classroom.
A huge well done to Year 2 for being such brilliant explorers.
