Year 1 Get Creative with Fruit Kebabs!

This half-term, our Year 1 pupils have been busy exploring food design in their Design and Technology (DT) lessons.

To start, the children researched their classmates’ favourite fruits and discovered which ones were most popular. They then had the opportunity to taste a selection of these fruits, helping them decide which to include in their own creations.

Next came the planning stage, where pupils designed their own fruit kebabs, thinking carefully about the order of ingredients and the equipment they would need. With their plans ready, they set to work assembling their colourful kebabs, following their designs step by step.

The highlight of the project was getting to taste their finished kebabs! Afterwards, the children evaluated their work, discussing what they enjoyed most and what they might do differently next time.

Year 1 have really enjoyed putting the DT process into action — plan, create, evaluate — and their fruit kebabs were a wonderful way to combine creativity, practical skills, and healthy eating.
