Year 4
Last week, Year 4 enjoyed a wonderful visit to Vue Cinema to watch Horrible histories: Rotten Romans. Thankfully, the weather held out and we managed to get to the cinema completely dry, it is a shame the same can’t be said for the seats! A quick screen change and a late change of film saw us watch Lyle, Lyle the Crocodile
The film was one of laughter and a few tears which gave us some fantastic learning opportunities around Anti-Bullying week and Reaching Out. So much so, that immediately after the screening we had a circle time around reaching out and the importance of being there for someone.
This half term, we have been looking at the book 'The Iron Man' in our literacy lessons. The children have thrown themselves into the text fully and it has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm spill out. This week, we have been looking into how play scripts are formed and the different techniques that would be used to create this genre of writing. The children all enjoyed taking on the roles of the different characters when formulating their scripts and put on some wonderful performances to boot. We could well have a future Academy Award winner in our midst!
Wednesday saw Year 4 taking part in ‘Art Day’ to complete our sculpture topic. Firstly, we would both like to thank all of you parents and carers for bringing in so many materials for the children to sculpt with. We were overwhelmed by the generosity and it made the day a roaring success for all the children. We started by looking at our local environment and design a sculpture that would reflect this. Next, we started to build our models from the materials brought in and covered these in Modroc. It was a messy process, but one that would make sure our sculpture would be long lasting. Finally, we painted our models and then placed them in places around the school. It is safe to say, the school grounds were a more vibrant place with our models!
Over the last two weeks, Year 4 have been hard at work learning all about the Jewish faith.
This week, we looked at the festival of Rosh Hashanah and the importance of this festival in the Jewish faith. Alongside this, we also looked at the festival of Hanukah and designed our own Seder plate, filling it with foods that would remind us of home.
At the end of the first week, we learnt in the news that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II had passed away. To celebrate her life, we spoke about her impact globally and made our own art instillation. The children are extremely proud of the work they put in and these can be seen on the windows of both 4B and 4K.
